VAR

Value-added reseller. Sells hardware and software with services on top.

What it means

A VAR, or value-added reseller, sells hardware and software from vendors and adds services on top, such as setup, integration or support.

Why it matters

The value-add is what protects margin. A VAR competes on expertise and service, not just price, so the service side matters as much as the product.
