What deal registration is
Deal registration means telling a vendor about an opportunity before it closes. In return, the vendor protects the deal, usually with extra discount, so another reseller can't undercut you on the same customer.
Why it gets missed
Registration lives in a vendor portal, away from the quote. Reps are busy closing, the form takes time, and nobody owns the follow-up. By the time someone remembers, the window has closed.
What it costs you
Every deal that could have been registered and wasn't leaves margin with the vendor. Across a year of hardware quotes, unclaimed registrations add up to one of the most common sources of missed margin.
Make it part of quoting
Check registration while the quote is being built, not after it's won. If the vendor offers it, file it with the quote, attach the protected pricing, and keep the expiry date on the same record.
Watch the expiry
Registrations lapse. Set a reminder well before the end date and tie it to the open quote, so you extend or close before the protection runs out.
